About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking an HR Advisor to join the team in Medicine Hat on a full-time basis.

As a collaborative member of the Human Resources team, you will be a business partner to plant leaders and employees, delivering human resource services based on established practices, guidelines, standards and policies. More specifically within this role, you will provide support in human resource functions such as recruitment, compensation, training, immigration processes, job evaluation, conflict resolution, performance management, talent management, workforce planning, and competency development. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading full-cycle recruitment and selection activities in collaboration with the hiring supervisor or manager which will include reviewing position descriptions for new or vacant positions, completing the job evaluation and grading, developing and advertising positions, coordinating shortlisting, leading interviews, completing reference checks, and preparing offers of employment. 
  • Ensuring effective onboarding processes are in place to support employee commencement and orientation. 
  • Coordinating and/or leading psychometric testing and related support for employees, supervisors, and managers as required. 
  • Coordinating and assisting HR processes, in collaboration with other Methanex sites, relating to Extended Business Trips (EBT), Global Assignments, and immigration matters for Methanex employees who are visiting or on loan from the Methanex Medicine Hat site.
  • Facilitating site performance management processes by providing employees, supervisors, and managers with training on the online system and assistance in completing performance planning and review activities while also supporting supervisors and managers with issues related to employee underperformance.
  • Supporting the development, review, and maintenance of foundational human resource policies, guidelines, and tools in alignment with Alberta Employment Standards, the Alberta Human Rights Act, and other relevant legislation as well as coaching employees, supervisors, and managers with respect to their application. 
  • Sourcing, organizing, coordinating, and /or facilitating internal and external training options and learning opportunities in order to meet identified knowledge, skill, and competency development objectives for employees, supervisors, and managers. 
  • Coaching supervisors and managers on people management and leadership strategies. 
  • Collaborating in the review and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies including facilitating exit interviews for departing employees. 

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or another relevant discipline combined with three to five years progressive, relevant experience in a human resources generalist role. A Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is considered an asset and an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Sound judgment with a demonstrated ability to make valuable decisions and recommendations based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, and experience
  • Flexibility, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to maintain information in absolute confidence
